Listen To Cafe Tacuba / Track 1  -  Track 2

Café Tacuba was formed in the northern suburbs of Mexico City by design students Ruben "Nru" Albarran, guitarist Joselo Rangel and his bassist brother Enrique "Quique" Rangel, and keyboardist Emanuel DeReal.

With its sizzling mix of ska, rock, hip-hop, and traditional Latin music, Café Tacuba
is one of Mexico's hottest bands. One of the "50 Future Latin American Leaders" according to Time magazine, the group continues to share its exciting dance music with audiences throughout Central and South America. Signed by Warner Music, in 1992, Café Tacuba has consistently exceeded the label's expectations. Their self-titled debut album sold more than 40,000 copies and was certified double gold in Mexico. The band's music was introduced to an international audience after the band was featured on a multi-artist compilation En Sessions at West 54th Street. Recorded at a New York nightclub, the album was called "the equivalent of the Beatles' White Album for the rock en español movement" by the New York Times. Café Tacuba continued its success with the funk-inspired Re in 1994, and Reves/Yosoy, which received a Best Rock Album of the Year award at the first Latin Grammy award ceremonies in 1999. The Tiempo Transcurrido collection followed two years later, but the band remained inactive as the members explored solo projects and took time away from the group. Refreshed by 2002, they stepped back into the studio and recorded the Vale Callampa EP.

Listen to Ely Guerra / Track 1  -  Track 2

Mexican singer/songwriter Ely Guerra debuted locally in 1992 with the release of a self-titled album. Graduating from Washington's Evergreen State College, her Latin alternative pop/rock style failed to achieve good reviews. However, she moved to London to make her follow-up record, titled Pa' Morirse De Amor and released in 1997, featuring her first hit single called "Angel De Fuego." In addition, her picture next to Julieta Venegas appeared on the cover of Time magazine introducing them as the most promising performers in the Mexican rock scene.
Ely Guerra contributed to the movie soundtrack of Amores Perros and Los Hijos de la Calle before participating in La Ley's MTV Unplugged, singing and playing guitar on "El Duelo," recorded in Miami on June 28, 2001. A year later, her third album Lotofire became her first international release.

CONTROL MACHETE - Mexico
Listen to Control Machete / Track 1  -  Track 2

Mexican Latin rap group Control Machete burst into the local rock and rap scene in the mid-'80s, making its debut with the release of Mucho Barato in July of 1997. Led by Fermín IV, Pato (later Patricio Ch. Elizalde), and Toy Kenobi (Toy Hernández), the band returned in March of 1999 with Artilleria Pesada, produced by Antonio Hernández and Jason Roberts. In addition, Fermín IV recorded a song alongside Cypress Hill called "Siempre Peligroso," which was featured on the album Grandes Exitos en Español. He also participated in Chris Vrenna's project Tweaker and played with Los Angeles-based hip-hop act OMD. The long parade of outside work may have caused his exit from the band, just after his 2002 solo debut Boomerang. The rest of the band returned in 2003 with a new direction and a new record, Uno, Dos: Bandera.
